‘Sun Children’ to open Doha filmfest

Acclaimed Iranian film 'Sun Children' directed by Majid Majidi, is set to go on screen at the 8th edition of the Ajyal Film Festival in Qatar.

The 2020 Iranian drama film by Majidi will be featured at the opening ceremony of the event to be held in Doha.

The film has won several accolades such as the best screenplay and best film at Fajr fest in Iran. The new offering of Majidi also grabbed the Magic Lantern at the 77th Venice fest in Italy.

'Sun Children' is about 12-year-old Ali and his three friends who do small jobs and petty crimes to survive and support their families. In a timely turn of events, Ali is told to find a hidden underground treasure. However, in order to gain access to the tunnel where the treasure is buried, Ali and his gang have to enroll at the Sun School, a charitable institution that tries to educate street kids and child laborers.

Teenage actor Rouhollah Zamani has won Marcello Mastroianni Award at the Venice fest for his portrayal of an impressive role in Majidi's film.

The Ajyal Film Festival runs a hybrid edition with a variety of events taking place both online and in-person. The event's program includes 22 features and 58 shorts representing timeless tales of community and determination, highlighting the innocence of youth and an enduring optimism through cinema.

The fest runs November 18-23, 2020 in Doha, Qatar.
